Hi,
My son has recently bought a Derbi GPR 50 that is in need of a bit of work, to say the least. He is 16 in January and I think we will be busy with it until then!
We bought it from eBay as the previous owner didn't have the time or the money to finish it. We were told that as far as he knew it only needed a carb and a battery and putting everything together. Long story short, its going to need a bit more than that.
I have a number of questions and heres the first:
It didn't come with the v5 log book so we need to apply for a new one. is there any way of finding out the year and model in the meantime i.e. vin number etc? We were sold it as a 2003 model with the vertical lights and that ties in with the front plastics / fairings, but the lights it came with are from the horizontal type.
How do we check which carb we will need as there seem to be dozens of them available? The battery I am sure should be relatively straight forward, but any advice would be appreciated.
We are keeping an eye on eBay for other parts we need, but can anyone recommend a Derbi breakers?
I would also ask you all to bear with me as I am a complete novice when it comes to motorbikes. I have worked on plenty of cars and pushbikes over the years and I am hoping there will be some transferable skills. I know some will think me a fool for taking on this project as a novice, but I am hoping that by the end of it my son will know his bike inside out (literally) and I am hoping we will have some fun together along the way!
Thanks for reading and sorry for rambling on!
Cheers
Paul
PS if this is the wrong place to post this, my apologies for that as well.

Re: GPR 50 Project
Well! Welcome in the first place!
The original carb on the most Derbi's are 14MM Or 17,5MM Dellorto PHVA. So take a look at that Carb. I really like Dellorto. They make great carbs. U can search with the license plate number which model it is. Take a look at https://www.rdw.nl/particulier/Paginas/default.aspx. And u can buy almost all batterys. I prefer NITRO. I have some good experience with the brand. If i can help u with something just say it.!
Hope i helped u with this a little bit!
Regards,
Mika

Re: GPR 50 Project
can you send us a picture of the frame number and the headlights then we can track down the model and the age, the license plate will not work with the rdw because the bike is not registert as a dutch bike so it wont help. just as mikaa46 said dellorto makes wonderfull carbs and i have replaced most of my carb's with them
i wish you good luck

Re: GPR 50 Project
Hi
Thanks for the replies. I have found out using the VIN number that it is actually a 2001 model. The problem I have now is that I have a set of lights from a 2001 model and a set of fairings from a 2003 model. My son prefers the lights on the 2003 model so I wonder is it an easy job to fit the 2003 fairings on a 2001 model? Can the lights be modified as well? Has anyone else tried this?
Cheers

Re: GPR 50 Project
If you mean the plastics with fairing (my English isn't very good), then it should fit. If you have some pictures we could tell you a lot more. Because if I'm right the frames are the same, so are the attachment points are the same (correct me if I'm wrong). I'm not 100% sure about this because I only have a Derbi Senda.

Re: GPR 50 Project
Ja, fairing is de kuip, ik heb zelf ook geen verstand van gpr's maar vgm zijn de frames van 2001 en 2003 hetzelfde. Maar de kappen hebben wel een andere vorm.D25 schreef:the fairing is volgens mij de kuip but i think there is a small diffrence dont know for sure im not realy a gpr guyebervanroij schreef:If you mean the plastics with fairing (my English isn't very good), then it should fit. translation for pwheeldon:
Yes, fairing is de kuip, I don't have much knowledge from GPR's either, but I thought the frames from 2001 and 2003 are the same. But the fairing do have a different form.
I think you should ask someone who has a 2001 or 2003 GPR or someone who has much knowledge about GPR's. Or just try to fit the fairings, if they dont fit you can put back the other fairings.
